History of Mute
It all Started back in '99 when Gilbert and Juan planned to start a band when Gilbert moved in to Laredo and met Juan.
The thought of starting a band had passed their minds for a while until Rocha came into the scene. Rocha was a guitar player looking for people to make a band with and Juan knew how to play the drums.
Rocha met Oscar who was going to play the bass for this up comming band. On the first day of practice, the role was different, Gilbert was the one playing bass, Oscar was the one doing vocals not Rocha as he had dreamed of him doing vocals and playing lead guitar.
When Gilbert, Oscar, Juan and Rocha had tried and check how the things were going, it did not work out and the guys cutted Rocha off the group.
The three guys were looking for a guitar player. Oscar and Gilbert who attended to V.M.T. Magnet met Leo Arispe who had a small fame of being a guitar player with a couple of skills and Javier wanted to join the cuartet too. So Mute wich at this time was called Point Zero, decided to try Javier and Leo Out.
The group seemed to slow down a bit since Leo was really just learning how to play guitar and Leo was teaching Javier how to play. They learned a couple of songs from KoRn and the Deftones and a few of their own. After the first party they played they had decided that the band would not make it this way and that it had to change.
After the party Oscar, Gilbert and Juan pink slipped Javier and Leo and the band took a different direction still with the name of Point Zero.
Several weeks later the three guys that were the left overs of Point Zero decided to try on their own. The line up for this new band was Oscar on Guitar, Gilbert on bass, and Juan on Drums, there was no singer yet.
The band started to practice with the name of Torzion. Several days later they changed the name to Mute since they had no singer. all the original songs they had were instrumentals, except for the covers which were sang by Oscar or Gilbert.
Another guitar player with the name of David Vidales showed up and wanted to jam, once again it did not work out. Mute also enrolled guitar player Eddy Ramos but Eddy never practiced so Mute thought that the deal with Eddy was off.
The time went by and Mute found Mike Garza a good guitar player ex member of the band called Rethoric.
Mike joined the band and tried it out in front of over 800 people in a basketball game during the halftime along with a band called Blind Reign.
This was a hit for Mute and decided to keep Mike as the guitar player with Oscar on vocals plus a friend of Mike called Juan Monroy who did back up vocals joined the band. And the band made a couple of shows and then they called Eddy again up to be an extra guitar.
So the agreement was set and after a few more weeks Mike got another job and it was imposible for him to go to practice for the up coming gigs.
Mute came to the agreement that Mike would take a break and save some cash from his new job.
The time went by and Mute made a couple of shows without Mike and later on The band came to another agreement that the band was not working out with two singers, Monroy left the band for another music project.
Then Oscar, Juan Gilbert and Eddy were left on the band, they played a couple of shows together and due to some indiferences Eddy decided to quit the band.
After a few weeks Mike came back to join the band, however, it didnt work out.
Later on, Chris Contreras, guitar player for a band called The Project, joined for several weeks, due to unknown reasons he left the band.
Mute now is a three piece band and would like to have a fourth member.
